Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

Only Chicago is missing from this super collection of seven NHL felt mini-pennants from Red Ball Gum in 1937. The pennants were a mail-in offer premium for gum wrappers with Lucky Stick printed on the back. These little beauties, measuring approximately 2 1/2" x 4 1/2", are in nice overall condition, with general dirt showing on the "Americans" example, and much smaller amounts on the Rangers and Red Wings samplings. Miniscule amounts of screened-on paint show flaking in places as well, and the sharp tips of the Rangers, Wings, and Maroons are no longer. The Rangers pennant exhibits a small sewing holes line near its tip. All in all, just a sensational rare grouping up for grabs. As an aside, a novel aspect of the original 1937 Red Ball promotion was that the last purchase from a box of 1 cent gum received a pennant stapled to a promo card, although this example isn’t included here.
