Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

Another splendid pre-war offering is this rookie card of Larry Aurie, a little dynamo who Detroit boss Jack Adams called "the most courageous player, pound for pound, in hockey" and who earned the nickname "Little Dempsey." Big on hockey know-how, Aurie was named Red Wings' team captain and helped Detroit to its first two Stanley Cups in 1936 and '37. This impressive example of OPC card #51 has been slabbed NM 7 by PSA, ranking it in a two-way tie with none graded higher from 33 submitted. Aurie's number "6" was retired by James Norris in 1938.
