Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
From the O-Pee-Chee company's very first hockey card issue comes this superb card of legendary Montreal Canadien Howie Morenz, the iconic star who was deemed hockey's most outstanding player for the first half of the 20th century. Part of Howie's bio on the reverse concurs: "One of the outstanding hockey stars of all time and always colorful." Classic image of Howie is in this case set against a green background, with card #23 receiving an extremely appealing mark of NM+ 7.5 from PSA, alone as the only 7.5, with just 4 graded higher at 8 from an overall field of 79 total submissions of the Morenz card. Howie's remarkable career included three Hart Trophy awards as the NHL's most valuable player. He played in the Ace Bailey Benefit Game the year this card was pulled from an OPC pack, but was traded to Chicago at season's end. You'll be as excited to acquire Howie as the Black Hawks were back in the day!
