Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Fred Taylor, the legend who earned his "Cyclone" nickname for his furious rushes while playing defence for Ottawa and Renfrew and one of the keys in Imperial Tobacco's landmark inaugural issue is captured here on his C56 rookie card, in splendid EX-MT+6.5 form. PSA Population Report figures reveal that just one of 90 owners of Taylor's rookie have ever received a higher mark from the company than this Pop-1 example. Cyclone also played center and rover, with evidence of him being the subject of bidding wars when pro hockey first began in the Portage La Prairie, Pittsburgh, Ottawa and Renfrew team names listed on the back card #15. The man asked to turn the sod for the Hockey Hall of Fame building and one of the grandest of them all, Cyclone is a definite prerequisite to a serious rookie card/C56 stash.
