Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
Among the most coveted and sought treasures in our amazing hobby are the elusive 100-year old postcards that were printed in Britain and apparently distributed in 50-count tins of Sweet Caporal cigarettes. This card, numbered 32 in the set, features the visage of netminder Riley Hern of the Montreal Wanderers. After four Stanley Cup wins with the Wanderers, Hern, who could often be spotted on the ice with a peaked cap perched on his head, left the game in 1911 to open a men's haberdashery in Montreal. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1962. The graders at PSA have found the condition of the card did not fall into a category on their grading scale and have awarded this example a mark of PSA Authentic before sealing it between two slabs of Lucite.
