Dating back some 110 years, the four Lord Stanley medals offered here commemorate the then Earl of Derby's 1902 tenure as Guild Mayor of Preston. Sensational souvenirs of the man who donated the Stanley Cup while Canada's Governor General feature three with Lord Stanley's image and a fourth with the images of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra from the "Borough of Preston, Earl of Derby Mayor" commemorating the new king's June 26, 1902 coronation. Stanley returned home to England in July 1893 to become the 16th Earl of Derby following his brother's death. There are two versions of each of the Lord Stanley medals, including a pair that each feature "Lord Derby" surrounding a portrait of Stanley on the face of a brass-colored eight-pointed star-shaped pin with "In Commemoration of the Preston Guild Lord Derby Mayor September 1902" on the reverse. The larger star medal still displays beautiful details and measures 1 3/4" at its widest while the smaller one, with a green and red woven ribbon, measures 1 1/4" at its widest. Profile images of Stanley and his wife appear on the face of a silver-colored 1902 “Celebration of Guild Merchant” commemorative coin that measures 1 1/4" in diameter. Great vintage collection of original Lord Stanley memorabilia.
