On February 23, 1972, the Boston Bruins clashed with the California Golden Seals in Oakland, and when the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins had come out on top with an 8-6 victory. On that night, Bruins forward Fred Stanfield notched his first NHL hat trick and was presented with a plaque to honor his feat, which we offer now. This wooden plaque features an Oakland Seals puck mounted at the top (although it has come free from its glue), with a nameplate below. The "Art Ross" puck has worn edges, scuffs, and a few nicks across the Seals logo, while the plaque itself has some worn edges and a few marks on both the wood and nameplate. One of the corner rivets is missing as well. The nameplate on this 8” x 10 ½” hat trick plaque states “Fred Stanfield - First NHL Hat Trick- At Oakland - February 23, 1972”. Stanfield scored his third goal of the game at 5:59 of the third period and was assisted by Don Awrey and Bobby Orr. He would end the ’71-’72 campaign fourth in Bruins scoring with 23 goals and 56 assists, and over his 14-year career would garner a very respectable 616 points in 914 games. Stanfield and his Bruins would cap off that big ’71-72 season a Stanley Cup.
