Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

For the fifth time in seven years, the Edmonton Oilers would capture the Stanley Cup when they took out the Boston Bruins in five games, and they did it without the help of "The Great One", who had taken up residence in southern California in 1988. In 1990 the Oilers were led by team captain Mark Messier and household names like Glenn Anderson, Esa Tikkanen, Jari Jurri, and Kevin Lowe, and the Alberta gang would first rid themselves of the Winnipeg Jets in seven games, then Gretzky's Kings in four straight, and the Blackhawks in six games before doing in the Bruins to win it all. Backup goalie Bill Ranford was between the pipes for the injured Grant Fuhr, and dramatically earned the Conn Smythe Trophy for playoff MVP. The Oilers had served notice – they were still a force to be reckoned with, even though older, and even without Gretzky. Offered from that celebrated 1990 Oilers' world title is an incredible and all-original Oilers' size 10 Stanley Cup ring, engraved on the inner band "Jostens 10K", weighing about 35 grams, presented to "Lloyd" of the team's front office staff, featuring a huge cluster of zirconias on the face of the bauble, surrounded by "Stanley Cup Champions 1990", with one shank showing the raised lettering of "5 Stanley Cup Champions", the Cup years, an image of the Cup, and "Oilers 4, Bruins 1", while on the other shank is the Oilers logo in white, flanked by "Lloyd 1990". A beautiful and original Oilers championship ring, preserved in splendid condition with only very few faint surface scratches to note. Comes with an LOA.
