Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2014
The "Dipsy-Doodle Dandy from Delisle" - HOFer Max Bentley (ind. 1966, dec. 1984), was more than worthy of winning the Lady Byng Trophy (for skill and sportsmanship) in 1942-43 when he totalled 70 points in 47 games and collected just 2 penalty minutes along the way. Obtained directly from the Bentley family is this personal trophy given to Max after claiming the Lady Byng, a nice little 8 3/4" gem featuring a hockey player on a 4" high, 5" in diameter black wooden base, with the plaque, now tarnished, reading "Souvenir of The Viscountess Byng of Vimy Challenge Cup, Presented by the Viscountess Byng of Vimy to the National Hockey League 1935 to encourage clean sportsmanship, Won by Max Bentley Chicago Black Hawks 1942-43". The base of the statue has been repaired where the skates were reattached to the round metal base the figurine is sitting on, a couple of small nails are partially coming out of the tarnished plaque, and a few scuffs and nicks are on the wood base, but all in all, this is a thing of beauty. Also included is an original 8" x 10" photo (with some edge wear) of Max and his kids admiring this very trophy in their home. Comes with an LOA from Classic Auctions.
