Pretty tough for Tim Horton to buy his beer in the fall of 1968 after getting hit with a whopping $50 fine for leaving the bench during an on-ice altercation. Offered is an Oct. 31, 1968 letter signed by NHL President Clarence Campbell and addressed to Leafs coach and GM Punch Imlach, advising Imlach that Horton was going to receive the harsh penalty for his sins that occurred on Oct. 16, 1968. Interestingly enough, Mr. Campbell was originally putting the hammer down on Leafs defenceman Pierre Pilote until Imlach, in a second letter enclosed here, tells Campbell that it was Horton, not Pilote, who did the deed. Two wonderful and historical documents. The first letter, measuring 7 ¼” x 11”, is signed in clear ballpoint pen by Campbell and initialed by Imlach, while the second letter, where Imlach blows the whistle on Horton, is 8 ½” x 11”, and is unsigned but typed as "G. Imlach General Manager - Coach". In the heading of Campbell’s letter, Pilote’s name has been scratched out with Horton’s name written above. A secretary has added “Should be Horton”, which Imlach has initialed. Both letters remain is wonderful condition with no marks or tears.
