Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

Jam-packed with newspaper clippings are these two wonderful 1930s scrapbooks that came via a close family friend of the Morenz family, with one book, measuring 9" x 12", an actual printed publication about the city of Montreal with clippings of Morenz, Joliat, Larochelle, Mantha, Burke and all the gang, with even various players from other teams, pasted onto the pages throughout. An added highlight is a genuine Pit Lepine autograph found inside the pages, while all in the all, the book comes in at 140 pages. Another scrapbook (10 1/4" x 16"), while still featuring Morenz and the gang, goes well beyond with stars of other teams. This book is 15 pages of clippings with reams of loose pics. The slightly smaller scrapbook has a child’s writing on various pages, from an obviously big fan who lovingly cut and glued, as kids have always done. These two books cover Habs stars of the ‘30s, Morenz’s death (including his death notice), players from the Maroons, Leafs, Bruins and others, scattered throughout. And of course there’s those lovely hockey-related cartoons that newspapers would include back then. A fine glimpse of 1930s big-league hockey seen through the time-honored tradition of scrapbooking.
