Quite a chapter in the Butch Goring saga. Fired as coach of the Boston Bruins after just 13 games into his 2nd coaching season, the 37-year old, with 16 seasons as a player under his belt, was offered a tryout with the Edmonton Oiler-affiliate Nova Scotia Oilers of the AHL where the former star suited up for 10 games. Offered is Goring's game-worn jersey from his stint in Halifax, tagged in the collar as a "Nike size M", with the N.S. Oilers' Oil Drop team logo on the front and Goring's single twill nameplate on the back. The orange and white double twill number "91" on the back and sleeves, which most likely are recycled numbers with good wear on the edges, show distinct puckering, while several stains mark the v-neck collar, and several marks line the left sleeve. Goring would collect 3 goals and 5 assists in his 10 appearances with the N.S. Oilers, and hang up his skates and continue to coach afterwards. After Goring’s 10-game tryout with the minor-league Oilers, he would stay behind the bench and found employment with minor league clubs including Spokane, Troy, Las Vegas, Denver and Utah before heading back to the bigs with his former team, the New York Islanders, where he spent 2 seasons. He would later coach in Anchorage and Germany.
