Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2014

The New York Islanders promptly took over where the Montreal Canadiens had left off, winning four straight Stanley Cups as the Habs had done previously, with the Islanders run beginning in the 1979-80 post-season. Thirty-year old centerman Butch Goring, who had joined the Islanders for the last 12 games of the regular season after coming over from L.A., proved a key piece of the puzzle for the Long Island squad as the veteran laced' em up for the full 21 post-season games, ending up fourth in team playoff points when all was said and done. Offered is Goring's game-worn Islanders jersey from the historic '79-'80 Cup Finals, photo-matched to a classic shot of Goring drinking from that first of four Stanley Cups, with the white mark of the number 2 on the left sleeve and half a dozen plus of loose threads on the same number 2 visible in the photo. Two loose threads at the top of the "N" in the team's crest also add to the all-important photo match of this gamer tagged in the collar as a size 48, with "Goodman and Sons" and "Bill Vanderburg" tags alongside. The left sleeve features the 1980 Lake Placid patch, while game marks are noticeable on the shoulder area, the front of the gamer, on both sleeves, and on the team crest, where puckering is evident as well. Pilling is seen in the collar, a team repair is on the lower left sleeve, and small unrepaired holes are on the front and on both sleeves, while the fight strap has been cut. A tremendous game-worn jersey from the crafty and hard-working Butch Goring as he helped set in motion the historic four-Cup New York Islanders run. Comes with an LOA from Mr. Goring.
