History was indeed made in the spring of 1980 when Butch Goring and his teammates secured the New York Islanders' first of four straight Stanley Cup championships, becoming just the second expansion team to hoist Lord Stanley's coveted trophy, realized after the team's eighth season. It was Bob Nystrom's memorable goal in overtime of game six of the finals against Philadelphia that gave the Isles their 5-4 clinching victory, sending the hometown fans at Uniondale's Nassau Coliseum into hysterics, and from this historic accomplishment, the Islanders' players and staff received their well-deserved and precious Stanley Cup rings. Offered is this magnificent Cup ring presented to hardworking center Robert "Butch" Goring, who proved to be a key member of the Islanders after joining his new squad from the L.A. Kings only a month before the playoffs began. Zirconia floats in a sea of blue on the front of this size 9 prized championship ring, with "Stanley Cup Champions 1980" encircling the bezel display. One shank features a raised image of hockey's ultimate prize, with the NHL shield in the background, while the other shank includes crossed hockey sticks and the Islanders logo with an inscribed banner reading "21 Goring C" above. Stamped "10K" on the interior of the band, the ring, with a weight of about 34 grams, shows minor wear with some scratching and nicks on the band. A stunning and historic ring from the truly important Butch Goring, who played a big part in kick starting the legendary four-year Islanders dynasty. Comes with an LOA from Mr. Goring.
