Here for the taking is another piece of monumental hockey history; with this Montreal Forum program from Game #2 of the best-of-five 1928 Stanley Cup Finals between the New York Rangers and Montreal Maroons, played April 7, 1928. It was a legendary night, as 45-year old Ranger coach and manager Lester Patrick, who had never played goal professionally, donned the goalie equipment in the 2nd period after Lorne Chabot was sent to hospital courtesy of a Nels Stewart shot to the eye. With his team rallying in front of him, Patrick stopped all but Stewart's tying goal in the third period, and ultimately Frank Boucher's overtime marker gave the Rangers a 2-1 win, tying the series 1-1, as Patrick was mobbed by his players. One Joe Miller was signed to play goal for the rest of the Finals, eventually won 3-2 by New York, with all games being played at the Forum because of a circus at Madison Square Garden. It was the Rangers first Cup win in just their second season, and another chapter of hockey history written by Lester Patrick - "The Silver Fox". Complete and in solid VG+ condition, the program features 48 pages of fascinating reading, including results of earlier 1928 playoff series. This extremely rare treasure (not even the Hall of Fame has a copy) will delight its eventual owner.
