St. Louis and baseball lost one of their greatest ambassadors when Stan Musial passed away earlier this year. Stan the Man will always be the face of the Cardinals, who he led to World Series titles in 1942, ’44 and ’46. A seven-time National League batting champion, Stan played in a record 24 All-Star Games and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1969 with a career batting average of .331, 3,630 hits, 475 homers and 1,956 RBIs. Stan has autographed this first edition of his harcover book, “Stan Musial” “The Man’s” Own Story, as told to Bob Broeg. Musial’s black fountain pen ink autograph on the blank cover page reads, “Best wishes, Stan Musial”. There is a small bluish smudge at the bottom of the S in Stan’s first name. Also included is a promotional 10x8 photo of Stan the Man kneeling on the Cards’ on-deck circle with the original envelope that it came in when it was presented by the team to fans who attended Musial’s last game on September 29, 1963 at the old Busch Stadium, formerly Sportsman’s Park.
