Awesome piece of Montreal Expos history is Pedro Martinez's signed 1997 National League contract which called for a salary of $3.5 million. Pedro had a monster season in his Montreal finale. He went 17-8 with four shutouts, a 1.90 ERA, a major league-high 13 complete games and a team-record 305 strike-outs to become the Expos' only Cy Young Award winner. That earned him a $100,000 bonus to go with the $15,000 bonus he claimed for playing in the All-Star Game in Cleveland. More info in our online description. Pedro has signed in blue ballpoint and dated his contract January 30, 1997 on page 11 of the 13-page document, which is also signed in blue ballpoint by an Expos executive. NL president Leonard Coleman’s signature is stamped on the same page with the date notation indicating the contract was approved by the league on February 7, 1997. The 11” x 8 1/2"document on seven double-sided pages has three holes punched through the left side.
