Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

The autograph of Hall-of-Famer "Sparky" Anderson, penned during his first year of managing a pro ball team, highlights this terrific minor league piece, the bold "George Anderson" signature appropriately appearing on the "Official International League" ball's sweet spot. Toronto Maple Leafs' longtime trainer Bill Smith and 20 players, 19 of whom saw action in the majors, also autographed the ball in two different shades of blue, including Quebec native Ron Piche. Other notables include then-pitcher Bill Kunkel who later umpired in the bigs and Bob Del Greco, a veteran of 731 major league games. The signing line-up also features Ken Hamlin, Carl Bouldin, Ron Nischwitz, Dave Eilers, Jim Bronstad, Chi Chi Olivo, Larry Osborne, Don Dillard, Jim McKnight, Bill Kern, John Anderson, Eli Brba, Lee Tate, Ed Hobaugh, Howie Koplitz, Ken Retzer and Ken Nixon. Well-preserved and housed in a vintage Spalding baseball box, the close to 50-year old relic includes a couple of somewhat faded signatures, with however all identifiable and contributing to a dandy display.
