Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
This awesome piece from old Tiger Stadium is the home plate used during the 1981 season from the Detroit Tigers' long-time home ballpark. Lance Parrish crouched behind it to receive pitches from Jack Morris. Lou Whitaker, Alan Trammell and Kirk Gibson left their spike marks in its gloriously gouged white rubber surface which is precisely 17 inches wide. Imagine all the other American League greats whose cleats left their imprint on this home plate, which was the one used on Tiger Stadium's main diamond during the strike-shortened season. This Tigers treasure comes with provenance documentation from our consignor, who bought it directly from veteran Detroit sportswriter Jim Hawkins, who obtained it from the team for his memorabilia store. Come out swinging with your best bid if you want to be safe at home! The hard black rubber border measures 19 1/2" across and a shade under 20” at its longest, straight down the middle. Metal plate on the bottom has five anchoring nuts.
