Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

Olympic gold was twice as nice for Canada’s 2002 men’s and women’s Olympic hockey teams. This special black leather Roots bomber jacket is strikingly similar to the one that was presented to members of both Canadian squads following their gold medal wins in Salt Lake City. A spectacular embroidered crest on the back features a black maple leaf superimposed on gold crossed hockey sticks. A smaller version of the maple leaf crest is sewn onto the left breast. Both crests have "GOLD MEDAL CHAMPIONS, Salt Lake City" embroidered in gold thread beneath them. A large black felt crest with a black and gold embroidered Canadian flag is sewn onto the right sleeve, with embroidered "Men’s Gold Medal Champions" and "Women’s Gold Medal Champions" banners. A second patch is sewn below, honouring the 50th anniversary of Canada’s 1952 Olympic gold medal. The left sleeve has seven black felt puck crests with gold thread embroidering for the years and host cities of the Canadian men’s team’s gold medals. A Roots 2002 Salt Lake City crest tag is sewn onto a square black leather patch. There is an “K” written in faded blue ink on the size L fly tag attached to the bottom. A consumer fly tag indicating that the black lining is 100 percent polyurethane remains sewn inside the left seam. Wonderfully preserved, this is a golden souvenir of Canada's dual hockey triumphs at the 2002 Olympics in Salt Lake City.
