Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

HOFer Billy Smith has signed his New York Islanders Vic Pro game-used stick. Imagine all the players who felt the wrath of Battlin’ Billy’s lumber when they strayed too close to his crease as he led the Islanders to four straight Stanley Cups from 1980-83, claiming Conn Smythe honors in 1983 when the Isles shut down Wayne Gretzky’s Oilers with a four-game sweep in the Cup finals. Billy placed a bold black marker autograph on the C in “Vic” on the paddle of his black gamer which retains Smith’s tape jobs on the knob and blade. “B. Smith” is stamped in white on the shaft below the wide white tape knob. There are chips on the top edge of the blade and both edges of the paddle while another chip lower down the top edge of the paddle is beneath Billy’s black tape job just above the heel. Smith’s 489 penalty minutes in 680 regular season games and 89 PIMs in 132 playoff games both rank second only to Ron Hextall all-time among NHL goalies. Whack!
