The KLM line was the most famous forward trio ever in international hockey and one of the greatest lines assembled in the history of the game. HOF center Igor Larionov was flanked by wingers Sergei Makarov and Vladimir Krutov on both the Red Army CSKA Moscow club and the Soviet Union national team as they dominated hockey throughout the 1980s. The KLM line combined to claim Olympic gold for the CCCP in 1984 and 1988 and four IIHF world championship gold medals together over the course of the decade. Larionov was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008 and all three KLM linemates are members of the IIHF Hall of Fame. Awesome assemblage of KLM sticks features Krutov and Larionov early-1990s Cooper gamers and a Makarov’s signed Koho game-issued stick.
“V. Krutov” is factory-printed in red letters on the shaft of the Russian winger’s Cooper TNT Pro 100 game-used stick, a model that he used with the Vancouver Canucks in his only NHL season in 1989-90. It retains his white tape job on the knob and black tape job on the blade, which has some nice light game wear on the tape job on the bottom edge.
Larionov, who won three Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings, has signed with the number “18” he wore during his three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks in black marker low on the back of the shaft of his Cooper TNT Pro game-used stick. Igor’s original tape jobs remain on the blade and knob, the latter with black tape over white tape on the top portion. The brand names on all four sides of the shaft were covered over with black spray paint. Game use shows in marks on the toe and low on the shaft above the heel and in light wear on the bottom of the blade’s tape job.
Makarov has signed in black marker all the way across the bare blade of his Koho game-issued stick. “Makarov” is stamped on the shaft and “23” is written in black marker on the back of the shaft.
