Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Say "Mr. Hockey" and everybody knows you're talking about Gordie Howe. When he finally hung up his skates for good at the astonishing age of 51, Gordie had accumulated six Hart Trophies, four Stanley Cups, 801 goals and 1,850 points. And that's not including his impressive WHA stats! A great Gordie Howe game-worn jersey is always sought in the hobby and here's a beauty! This late-1960s Howe Detroit Red Wings dureen gamer displays Gordie's legendary number "9" on the back in single-layer tackle twill and this is repeated twice more on the arms in smaller white numerals. Olympic Sporting Goods tagging and a size 48 flag tag sit in the back of the neck. Gordie has signed in bold black marker inside the jersey behind the Winged Wheel crest. The MeiGray Vintage LOA states on its MGV report that the jersey's design is consistent with other late-1960s Red Wings jerseys they have examined, and with team repairs that are consistent with game-worn Red Wings jerseys from the era. The front right has a vintage fabric patch, presumably taken from the missing portion cut from the inner right rear hem, and six more team repairs. Four more sewing fixes on the back include an oval fabric patch below the number. There is another team repair on the lower left sleeve and one more on the right sleeve cuff. There are black marks on the front, a small black mark on the 9 on the right sleeve, a little blue paint transfer on the left rear tail, and board burns on the sleeves. Comes with a MeiGray Vintage LOA and certificate of registration plus copy of a letter from longtime Red Wings trainer, the late Lefty Wilson. Please take note that this lot may be subject to a silent reserve.
