Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Very attractive crease-free football cards from the 1959 General Mills Wheaties 48-card set lead things off here, with Russ Jackson’s RC and cards of Ken Ploen and Hal Patterson among eight in the EX to EX+ range, with just a slightly dinged corner here and there denying them a higher grade. Also present are cards of Dave Mann, Don Getty, Lynn Bottoms, Bud Tinsley and Doug Killoh, with a trio of Nabisco Shredded Wheat from 1956 having had their lower portions cut off but otherwise crease-free; Knobby Wirkowski, Burdette Hess and Earl Lindley. Footballers Lionel Conacher, Red Storey, Ron Stewart and Jackie Parker are featured in the ’61 Wheaties Great Moments in Canadian Sports lot, with Bernie Geoffrion and the Trail Smoke Eaters representing the hockey world. Other than a stained Parker card and a creased Geoffrion example, the lot generally features VG-EX and EX cards. Player’s golf cards, (14/25) from 1939 are intriguing, (one card has a golfer with a smoke in his mouth as he follows through!) and are in the EX neighborhood, while three lower grade Lowney’s/Cracker Jack cards include #s 37-Wrestling Yesterday, 38-Wrestling Today and 44-Football Today.
