The rookie cards of some of baseball’s all-time greats, most of whom began their big-time big league careers in the 1960s, are offered in this star-studded lot, with Johnny and Reggie leading the way amongst the encapsulated examples. The 1968 Topps Bench RC is a PSA EX-MT 6 with a (ST) qualifier, with however the wax on the front not-too-detracting in our eyes. The Jackson rookie from the following year received a mark of EX 5 from SGC. Chronologically among the rest of the slabbed rookies are ’62 #387-Lou Brock (SGC EX 5), ’65 #581-Tony Perez (SGC VG/EX 4), ’66 #126-Jim Palmer (SGC EX/NM 6), ’66 #288-Don Sutton (PSA EX-MT 6) and ’69 #597-Rollie Fingers (SGC NM 7). Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA is Mickey Mantle’s #475 MVP card from ’61, while two autographed cards are PSA/DNA Certified; ’61 Fleer #45-Carl Hubbell and ’62 Topps #312-Spahn Shows No-Hit Form. Important rookie cards from 1965 highlight the raw cards, with a G-VG Steve Carlton card joined by an off-centered but otherwise EX-MT Tony Perez and duplicates of Joe Morgan (VG-EX, G-VG) and Phil Niekro (VG, G-VG). Other RCs are those of Willie McCovey (’60 #316 VG), Billy Williams (’61 #141 EX-MT), Gaylord Perry (’62 #199 VG+), Ferguson Jenkins (’66 # 254 VG+) and Earl Weaver (’69 #516 G-VG). Nice additions to the rookies are legends Stan Musial (’60 Topps #250 G-VG) and Roberto Clemente (’62 Topps #10 VG).
