Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

One-half of a famous brother combination was Odie Cleghorn, with his brother Sprague and their Montreal Canadiens teammates reigning Stanley Cup champs when this card was issued with Champ’s Cigarettes during the 1924-25 season. Interesting and revealing write-up on the back informs “He plays with the shortest stick in Professional Hockey, handling the stick close to his feet and he has been regarded as the most skillful and graceful stick handler of all times.” The skillful eyes at PSA have given a mark of VG-EX+ 4.5 to this pre-war treasure, destined for an appreciative new home. Odie, by the way, died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Montreal, less than two days after his brother Sprague had died.
