Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

Pictured in an early Montreal Canadiens sweater here, the legendary Newsy Lalonde actually was skating and scoring for the Vancouver Millionaires when this treasure was found in an Imperial Tobacco pack. A one-year stint out west saw Newsy lead the PCHA in 1911-12 with 27 goals in 16 games. He returned to Montreal the following season and three years later helped the Canadiens to their first Stanley Cup championship. Gorgeous-looking example of card #42 in the C55 set appears to be crease-free, with apparent trimming resulting in smooth edges and relatively sharp corners, along with the “A Auth” label from SGC. Specs of paper loss on the back are also to note, but a fine specimen to hold and behold while contemplating the pre-NHL era.
