Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Sensational chance here to score a sensational example of a Babe Siebert rookie card, with Siebert's V129 RC here scoring a tantalizing NM 7 at PSA. Babe, erroneously identified as "Seibert", in his first year in New York after starring with the Montreal Maroons, had helped the Rangers to the Stanley Cup the season prior to this dazzler being discovered, although hobbyists have yet to discover who produced these sepia-toned cards. It must have been quite a season for gum and hockey enthusiasts in 1933-34 as cards from four gum companies joined the V129s, which turn up far less often than the others. In an early PSA holder, this NM 7 treasure is edged on the PSA Population Report by just one NM-MT 8, with only seven other such Siebert RCs ever submitted to the company. This Babe will be a special acquisition.
