Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
This riveting image of Canadiens' goalie extraordinaire Georges Vezina was originally obtained by someone who purchased a Paterson's Hockey League Bar during the 1924-25 hockey season. Vezina and his Montreal teammates were reigning Stanley Cup champions at the time and Cup finalists at season's end, losing their crown to Victoria, in what would be Vezina's final full season. Georges had never missed a game in 16 years but collapsed in the following season opener and died months later of tuberculosis. A couple of light vertical creases and soiling on the reverse render this example of card #43 VG at best, and likely a notch lower in the eyes of the pro graders.
