Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

Gretzky, Orr, Hull, Howe, Richard, Morenz and Vezina - when you're considering the all-time most popular, most coveted and most important rookie cards in hobby history, that of the Montreal Canadiens' legendary goaltender always comes to mind. Georges Vezina's #38 card from Imperial Tobacco's classic C55 set here is an attractive low grade example, with not-too-drastic paper loss on the back and light scuffing and soiling on the front, but no unsightly creases. We do spot a diagonal light crease in the lower left portion, but overall, this should prove an appealing, attainable alternative to a higher grade Vezina rookie. The NHL's original iron man, Vezina played an incredible 367 consecutive regular season and playoff games with the Canadiens during his 16 seasons and recorded the NHL's first shutout. Habs boss Leo Dandurand once revealingly said, "He was as lovable as he was athletic." Enough said.
