Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
A coveted complete set of the very first hockey cards and totally encapsulated to boot, is what awaits the high bidder of this intriguing group, featuring several legendary figures who helped form and advance our beloved sport. Rather attractive uniform-condition is technically low grade but much more appealing to behold than cards with multiple creases and unsightly flaws. The majority of the cards, 29 out of 36, have been graded Fair 1.5 by Beckett, due to paper loss on the back of each. It however, (the paper loss), is at the top of each card and does not affect the text. A few exceptions, (to the Fair 1.5 grade), are #6-Edgar Dey, without paper loss and graded G-VG 2.5, a pair at Good 2; Wanderers 5-Frank Glass and 20-Ernie Russell, and then four at Poor 1 including card #36 of Newsy Lalonde (creased, paper loss and soiling on the reverse). Other 1s are 21-Laviolette, 24-Poulin and 30-Johnson. Encapsulated rookie cards of Frank and Lester Patrick, Art Ross (two different) and Fred "Cyclone" Taylor sure are stirring to hold and admire, with fellow Hall-of-Famers LeSueur, Roberts, Walsh, Hyland, Dunderdale, Cattarinich, Stuart, Hern, Pitre, Moran and Marshall adding further appeal to the captivating ensemble.
