Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
A fantastic, infrequent opportunity is offered here, with all 70 Paulin's cards from 1923-24 encapsulated by Beckett Grading Services and all being of the non-redeemed variety and thus free of redemption stamps / punch holes. The offer to send in a complete set to the Winnipeg-based Paulin's Chambers Company and receive either a free hockey stick or box of chocolates is outlined on the back of each card, while the fronts feature the images of men who competed in the Western Canadian Hockey League - several of whom went on to star in the NHL and earn a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame. A dozen Hall-of-Famers make their first cardboard appearance, with the condition details as follows. Tops is #31-Art Gagne at VG-EX+ 4.5, with 2-Pete Speirs at VG-EX 4. The most dominant grades are VG+ 3.5 and VG 3, with 39-George Hainsworth and 63-Herb Gardiner among (16) in the former group and the latter of (25) highlighted by cards of 28-George Hay, 35-Bill Cook, 45-Duke Keats, 62-Red Dutton, 69-Harry Oliver and 70-Rusty Crawford. Next in line are nine slabbed G-VG 2.5 (22-Dick Irvin, 38-Newsy Lalonde, 41-Bullet Joe Simpson) and (12) at Good 2, including 1-Bill Borland, 15-Lorne Chabot and 30-Barney Stanley. Completing are five commons at Fair 1.5 and 13-Dalman at Poor 1. Delectable treasures from Western Canada are destined for an important pre-war shrine. Please call if more specifics are required.
