Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Appealing in no matter what condition is a complete set of Imperial Tobacco's inaugural hockey card issue, with the majority here falling into the Good 2 and PR 1 slots at PSA. The key rookie cards include Cyclone Taylor, making it to Good+ 2.5, Newsy Lalonde at Good 2 and Frank Patrick, both Art Ross cards and Lester Patrick at PR 1 or PR-FR 1. The Patrick brothers, Frank with multiple light creases and Lester with staining on the lower portion, display better than the Ross cards, both with paper loss. Condition leaders are #s 32-McNamara at VG-EX 4 despite apparent paper loss on the front and 24-Poulin which has a (MK) qualifier due to initials penciled on the reverse. VG 3 cards are those of Hall-of-Famers 10-Hyland and 16-Cattarinich, along with 19-Jones and 25-Bernier. Among the remainder, a group of 17 come in at Good 2, including HOFers 2-Roberts, 7-Walsh, 17-Stuart, 21-Laviolette, 22-Hern, 23-Pitre, 28-Moran, 30-Johnson, 33-Marshall and 35-Marshall, as well as 4 (MK), 6, 9, 11, 13, 18 (MC) and 27. Multiple creases affect PR 1 and PR-FR 1 examples of 2-LeSueur, 5-Glass, 14-Dunderdale, 20-Russell, 19-Toms, 31-Gaul and 34-Ridpath. A prerequisite to an important tobacco card collection, this ensemble will be attractive to many a hobbyist.
