Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
What a winter it was in 1971-72 for hockey card collectors, especially Montreal Canadiens fans, for they had the chance of discovering in packs the rookie cards of an already-hero, Ken Dryden, along with a hero-to-be, Guy Lafleur! A perfect bold black sharpie Lafleur autograph graces Guy's off-centered but crease-free EX-MT-looking rookie, while the Topps version of Dryden's RC includes a coveted, just-a-tad-smudged autograph, and of course that ultra-cool mask. Also looking in the EX-MT neighborhood if not NM, card #45 mentions Ken's instant hero status from his '70-71 playoff performance. What a dandy duo!
Classic Auctions is pleased to offer an exceptional collection of autographed hockey rookie cards, all of which have been encapsulated by PSA and certified “Authentic.” An area of the hobby which has gone under-appreciated and which has tremendous growth potential is that of the signed rookie card, when one considers the comparatively miniscule amount of vintage rookie cards which feature autographs. Our consignor’s sensational stash includes a marvelous array of Hall-of-Famers and stars. The fact that the pictured players handled and autographed the cards is indeed intriguing and thought-provoking. Please note that the cards themselves are not PSA-graded and that we’ve done our best to give an accurate account of their condition, with however no returns accepted in regards to condition details, as understandably, minute grade-lowering flaws may not be visible through PSA holders. Good luck with this outstanding collection.
