Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
A marvelous all-Hall of Fame lineup here features some of Chicago's most popular hockey heroes, who applied gorgeous difficult-to-hope-for-nicer autographs to their respective rookie cards. Chronologically, Bill Gadsby's solid VG 1951-52 Parkie leads things off and is followed by men who helped the Black Hawks to the Stanley Cup in '60-61. Rookies of Glenn Hall ("#1" and "HOF/75" added), and Stan Mikita, along with two of Pierre Pilote all look to be crease-free, with one Pilote autograph graded GEM MT 10. The other RC is the card condition leader among them, appearing at least EX+. Superb signatures of the Esposito brothers are a fine way to complete things, with Tony's RC looking sharp, sharp (NM-or-better) and Phil's also crease-free and in the EX neighborhood. The Chicago Stadium neighborhood sure was exciting when these stars performed!
Classic Auctions is pleased to offer an exceptional collection of autographed hockey rookie cards, all of which have been encapsulated by PSA and certified “Authentic.” An area of the hobby which has gone under-appreciated and which has tremendous growth potential is that of the signed rookie card, when one considers the comparatively miniscule amount of vintage rookie cards which feature autographs. Our consignor’s sensational stash includes a marvelous array of Hall-of-Famers and stars. The fact that the pictured players handled and autographed the cards is indeed intriguing and thought-provoking. Please note that the cards themselves are not PSA-graded and that we’ve done our best to give an accurate account of their condition, with however no returns accepted in regards to condition details, as understandably, minute grade-lowering flaws may not be visible through PSA holders. Good luck with this outstanding collection.
