Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
The last of the NHL's new expansion teams to take the ice in 1967 was the Los Angeles Kings, who were forced to make their debut at the small (11,000 seat) Long Beach Arena, since the brand new Forum wouldn't be ready until three months into the season. Visiting were the Philadelphia Flyers, playing their second NHL game. The result was a 4-2 Los Angeles win, as Brian Kilrea scored the first goal in Kings history, beating Flyers goalie Doug Favell early in the 2nd period with a one-timer from the slot; then added another into an empty net. This rarely seen program is complete and in marvelous EX/NM condition, with star-crossed goalie great Terry Sawchuk on its cover. This would be Sawchuk's only season in LA, two years before his tragic death.
