The Pittsburgh Penguins franchise, now in its 46th season with three Stanley Cup championships under its belt, was born on October 11, 1967, as the Penguins welcomed the Montreal Canadiens to the "Igloo" in Pittsburgh. The first NHL game played in the Steel City since 1930 (when the short-lived Pittsburgh Pirates finished their final season) proved to be a tight contest, with the powerful Canadiens squeezing out a 2-1 win. Jean Beliveau notched the winner, his 400th career goal, while Andy Bathgate scored the first goal in Penguins history, set up by Noel Price and Ab McDonald.
