The 1945 Stanley Cup Finals pitted the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Detroit Red Wings, in what turned out to be a Series for the ages. Three years prior, the same two teams had contested an historic Final in which Toronto overcame a 3-0 deficit in games to win the Cup, still the only team to ever do so. This time, the 1945 match-up saw Toronto jump out to a 3-0 lead in games behind an amazing three straight shutouts for Frank "Ulcers" McCool, a 26 year old rookie goalie filling in for Turk Broda, who was serving overseas in the war. Then things got interesting, as the Wings took the next three games, to set up Game 7 in Detroit, and a chance to turn the tables on the Leafs. It was not to be, however, as Toronto prevailed 2-1 to win the Cup, their first of three in a row. Offered here is a complete, EX+ program (center page is loose) from Game 5 of this memorable series, in which Detroit's own rookie goalie Harry Lumley shut out the Leafs 2-0 behind Flash Hollet's late 3rd period winner; on April 19, 1945 at the Detroit Olympia.
