Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

One of the most infamous, and ultimately significant, events in NHL history occurred on the night of December 12, 1933, as the Toronto Maple Leafs met the Bruins at the Boston Garden. Late in the 2nd period of a tight game, the Leafs' King Clancy leveled Boston's tough and talented star defenseman Eddie Shore with a clean hit. Enraged, Shore responded with a vicious check on Toronto's "Ace" Bailey, mistaking him for Clancy; which fractured Bailey's skull as he fell to the ice. A brawl ensued, leading to the Leafs' Red Horner flattening Shore with a retaliatory punch. Shore was ultimately suspended for 16 games by the League, while Bailey, who narrowly escaped death, would never play hockey again. The result was the first All-Star Game in NHL history, as a special benefit match pitting Toronto against the stars from the rest of the League was played on February 14th of that season at Maple Leaf Gardens; with the proceeds going to Bailey and his family. Shore played in the game, and shook hands with Bailey prior to the opening face-off in what remains an iconic image. Offered here is a complete, EX/NM condition program from that fateful December 12th evening, including the centerfold with lineups and an EX/NM photo insert of Bruins Hall of Famer Tiny Thompson. Also included is an equally rare ticket stub, in solid condition with tape residue.
