Prior to the 1981-82 season, Phil Esposito's NHL record of 76 goals in a season, set a decade earlier, was still thought to be an unapproachable total. As that season progressed, however, it became clear that at least one special player had a chance to exceed it. Going into a contest with the Sabres in Buffalo on February 24, 1982, Wayne Gretzky had scored a stunning total of 76 goals in just 63 games, tying him with Esposito for the record. With the game internationally televised, all eyes were on the Oilers and Sabres that evening waiting for history to be made, and with under seven minutes left to play in a 3-3 tie; Gretzky finally beat Buffalo goalie Don Edwards for his 77th goal of the season, thereby setting a new NHL standard. Then with two lightning strikes, he scored twice more in the final two minutes to seal a 6-3 win. Offered here is a complete, near mint game program (ironically featuring Edwards on its cover); plus an EX/NM ticket stub autographed by Wayne Gretzky, a cut Phil Esposito autograph, and two copies each of both a four page game-day insert and a Sabres press release regarding Gretzky's availability post-game.
