Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

An 18 year old Wayne Gretzky made his NHL debut on October 10, 1979, as his Edmonton Oilers met the Blackhawks in venerable Chicago Stadium. Although the result was a 4-2 Chicago victory, the Great One would score the first point of an incredible 2,857 he would total in his career; setting up a goal by fellow rookie Kevin Lowe. This game also featured the initial NHL appearance of Mark Messier, making it the first game for both of the top two scorers in NHL history! On top of all that, it was of course game #1 in the National Hockey League for the Edmonton Oilers franchise. It's probable that few if any of the Chicago fans who attended the game that evening had any sense of its future significance, as programs from it have rarely surfaced in the 34 years since. Offered here is what may well be the nicest copy extant - complete, unmarked and in glossy near mint/mint condition. A treasure worthy of the finest Gretzky collection.
