Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013

If only these fabulous ancient tools of the trade could talk is what we're thinking while holding and beholding these killer sticks. The circa 1880s-1890s wood stick with rounded blade was likely used to play ice polo, an American precursor to ice hockey which peaked in the late 19th Century, and features an inverted white Spalding logo on the blade, where "NO." and "AA" appear on either side of it. Measuring 40" from the tip of the blade to the top of the tapered shaft, near where old black tape still remains, the relic is joined by a fascinating primitive and well-used one-piecer. Its long, worn, chipped blade, extremely high lie, wide thick shaft and wraps of black blade are all a treat to check out. Definitely used by right-handed shot, who knows how many goals this still-solid baby scored? Holding it makes you want to find some ice and try it out!
