Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
The Trail of the Stanley Cup is a highly-sought-after three-volume account of the history of hockey and Lord Stanley's trophy from 1893 to 1967. This set, numbered 174, is originally from the library of Jim Coleman, a great Canadian sports journalist and Elmer Ferguson Award winner who was inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1985 and died in 2001. "Presented to Jim Coleman with the compliments of The National Hockey League" label is held in place with two vintage strips of cellophane tape inside Vol. 1's front cover. The author has signed, "Have not been writing you for a long time. This should hold you. Charles L. Coleman", in blue ballpoint on one of the following pages. These black leather-bound books come with their original slipcases, which exhibit some handling but are nicely preserved overall. Vol. 2 has a few dog-eared page corners in the back of the book.
