Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Stunning sepia tone photograph captures the members of the Ottawa Hockey Club posed on their home ice during the 1930-31 NHL season. The year would not go well for the team as the Senators would finish in last place for the first time in team history, and with the Great Depression taking its toll on the team, the NHL suspended the Senators and the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 1931-32 NHL season, renting the players for $25,000. Art Gagne led the team in "offence" and the one shining point was the netminding of Alex Connell, pictured at one end of the front row, who was in goal for all 10 of the franchise's wins that year, compared to Bill Beverage who turned in a poor performance of 0-8-0 between the pipes. The vintage 8" x 10" photo is mounted onto heavy, creamy card stock to an overall size of 8 1/2" x 11" and it has been preserved over the decades in excellent-plus condition.
