Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Rare offering is an original studio team photo of the 1903 Stanley Cup champion Montreal Amateur Athletic Association hockey club. "The Little Men of Iron" won the Cup in March 1902 and defended its title with a 2-1 series win over Winnipeg in February 1903. HOFers Tommy Phillips, Dickie Boon, Jimmy Gardner and Jack Marshall are pictured in this original 11" x 15" Swan Studio print of the 1903 MAAA team in the wake of its successful defense of Winnipeg's Cup challenge. The print itself is wonderfully preserved, mounted on its original 21" x 26" grey matte cardboard background which is missing pieces torn off along the edges. A scarce vintage team photo of a legendary Stanley Cup team. The original team photo has adhesive residue in the bottom left corner from a tape remnant that is mostly on the matte. There is a water stain on the bottom right portion of the grey matte that touches the bottom edge of the team photo. The vintage “Montreal Hockey Club, Successful Defenders Stanley Cup, 1903” banner with the team members’ names on it below the photo is torn vertically just to the right of the middle. It is also loose with tape residue remnants on the edges. The image of the original Stanley Cup above the team photo has black marks around it.
