Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
The Ottawa Silver Seven of the 1900s was arguably the first true Stanley Cup dynasty. The modern Ottawa Senators have hung Cup banners in the rafters of Scotiabank Place that include six championships claimed by the Silver Seven from 1903-10. The story behind the team's immortal Silver Seven nickname goes like this: to avoid jeopardizing the team's amateur status, a Senators executive presented all seven members of the Cup champions with a silver nugget. Remember, teams iced seven players at the time, including a rover. Offered is an incredible 1903 Ottawa Hockey Club Stanley Cup champions framed team photo montage by Pittaway Photo of Ottawa. One-Eyed Frank McGee, Harvey Pulford, Harry Westwick, Billy Gilmour and coach Alf Smith make a total of five members of the Hockey Hall of Fame pictured in inset photos displayed around the 1903 Silver Seven's hard-won hardware, including the original Stanley Cup. The 13" x 16" photo montage print with Pittaway Photo Ottawa in the bottom right corner was mounted by the studio over a 13 3/4" x 17" white background, which creates a border margin, against a beige detailed matte that has a Pittaway logo in the bottom right corner. Displayed in a vintage period 21 1/2" x 24 1/2" wood frame, this magnificent 1903 Ottawa Silver Seven team photo montage is believed to be from Tommy Gorman or the Gorman family.
