Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Spring 2013
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/18/2013
Super Mario Lemieux made a magnifique return to the NHL midway through the 2000-01 season when he pulled his retired number 66 down from Mellon Arena's rafters and put it back where it shined brightest, on the ice. Mario's Penguins game-worn black jersey from his comeback season is photo-matched to two road games. The two black marks near the seam on the white portion of the lower right sleeve show in photos of Lemieux wearing this jersey on March 8, 2001 in Atlanta and on March 12 against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Le Magnifique's iconic "66" is written in black marker on the Made in Canada flag tag in the neck, which also has a size 58 flag tag, both sewn over by black thread nameplate stitching. More game wear shows in black marks on the team crest and sleeves, which also display board burns, including two unrepaired burn holes on the right sleeve. Comes with an LOA from Casey Samuelson of PenguinsChronicles.com. There are also board burns on the right rear tail.
