It was entirely fitting that Wayne Gretzky’s phenomenal playing career came to an end in 1999. Wayne announced his retirement late in the 1998-99 season and he played his final game at Madison Square Garden on April 18, 1999 against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Offered is an impressive media kit from Gretzky’s last game that includes a with the Rangers’ April 18, 1999 vs. Pittsburgh media notes package, Rangers April 16, 1999 news and internet news clippings packages, April 17 and 18 news clippings packages. The 14x10 double pocket sleeve has a sticker label dated “April 18, 1999, Jim Taylor, Calgary Sun” for the longtime Canadian sportswriter who covered Gretzky’s swan song. A similar sticker label is applied to one of the two other “The Great One” media kit sleeves with Gretzky Oilers rookie and Rangers dual photos on the cover with quote sheets, NHL Gretzky retirement announcement notes package, Gretzky international hockey career notes, Gretzky trophy case summary, stats, regular season milestones and a copy of the game’s scoresheet and event summary stapled together inside. Nicely preserved overall with expected handling, a great souvenir of the end of an amazing era of the Great One’s on-ice magic.
