What amazing lineups in the centerfold of this Maple Leaf Gardens program for the 1949 NHL All-Star Game! The Stanley Cup champion Toronto Maple Leafs played their third straight game against the NHL All-Stars on October 10, 1949. The Leafs’ lineup boasted HOFers Broda, Watson, Bentley and Kennedy, while the 1949 All-Stars were loaded with 14 HOFers, including Durnan, Rayner, Stewart, O’Connor, Conacher, Bentley, Mosienko, Richard, Laprade, Quackenbush, Abel, Howe, Lindsay and Reardon! This third edition of the All-Star Game saw the ill-fated Bill Barilko open the scoring for the Leafs, only to have the All-Stars follow with three unanswered goals to win it 3-1. Accounts of the game suggest it was both thrilling and rough, with Ted Lindsay, Pat Egan, Garth Boesch and Ray Timgren all being cut for stitches. This complete 82-page program measures roughly 9 3/4" x 6 3/4" and is nicely preserved overall with some handling wear on the spine and a few stains on the front cover, which features Toronto coach and HOFer Hap Day.
