With all of the Detroit Red Wings’ Stanley Cup success over the last decade and a half it’s hard to remember that it had been 42 years since Lord Stanley’s prized silverware was at home in the Motor City in the spring of 1997. The Winged Wheel rolled over the NHL as captain Steve Yzerman’s Hockeytown Heroes swept Philadelphia in a four-game Stanley Cup final for Detroit’s first Cup since 1955. Red Wings faithful were bursting with pride and the Pro Player company came up with this fantastic red and black leather jacket. The Winged Wheel logo crest is embroidered on the left breast with “1997 Stanley Cup Champions” spelled out in white thread embroidering below it. The back trumpets the Wings’ title in style with a dazzling twill and embroidery 1997 Stanley Cup Championship logo featuring the Winged Wheel crest across the barrel of an image of the Stanley Cup. Pro Player NHL tagging in the back of the neck has a size XXL flag tag. The old NHL shield logo is embroidered in black and orange on the red leather portion of the left sleeve. Sleeves have white leather piping and button snaps at the cuff. Worn with pride as evidenced by some of the red paint worn off the zipper, this 1997 Stanley Cup championship jacket remains in great condition for a worthy Red Wings collection.
